Sholom and Hyman Eleazar
We could not find a picture
of Tzutel. But, we do have a picture of Sholom Eleazar together with son,
Hyman, taken shortly after they came to Chicago in about 1912.
The
older children --Chanah, Bessie and Hendel were in Chicago before World
War I broke out. |

Tzutel and the younger children were
left behind and they sufferred through World War I especially badly
because Tzutel took ill and died in 1916, leaving four young children.
--Dora, Izzy, Rose, and Estelle, the youngest, was only 4.
Izzy,
who was only 12, had to take care of them –he foraged for food and
clothing and a place to keep warm. It was a horrible time. |
